Shirley Webber is a South African citizen and lived most of her younger life in the Free State (Welkom). She grew up in the mining and metals industry as her father was employed by the gold mining industry for a period of 30 years.  She attended school in the Free State and obtained her degrees at the University of the North West. Her qualifications include a CAIB (SA) Associate Banking Diploma, a

B.Com(Ed)(Cum Laude) and a B.Com Honours degree in Financial and Strategic Management.

She was previously the Sector Director of Mining, Resources and Commodities at FirstRand Bank Limited in Johannesburg.  Shirley joined Absa Bank Limited in 2011 and is now the Coverage Head for Natural Resources for Barclays Africa Group Limited (Corporate and Investment Banking). Her responsibilities include maintaining and growing relationships in the mining, metals, oil, gas and chemical industries. She has a wealth of experience working with key clients such as Anglo American Group, De Beers and Diamonds Sight-holders, Petra Diamonds, Firestone Diamonds and Sasol.

As part of her focus on the banking industry, she has always taken up part time lecturing at various universities and colleges to ensure that students receive valuable practical banking industry knowledge. She was a member of the Financial Service Board Seta in South Africa and a member of a working group at the University of Pretoria developing appropriate curricula for banking related university degrees.
