Mr David C. Parry is a Director of Ecosurv Environmental Consultants (Pty) Ltd. Botswana – a company of environmental professionals. He holds an MSc in Tropical Resource Ecology, Honours in Terrestrial Ecology, BSc, Diploma in Nature Conservation and Management and more than 30 years of experience in environmental management. His focus is strategic and environmental assessment, natural resource management, community use of resources, biodiversity, remote sensing, environmental planning and policy. David is certified to practice as an EIA Principle Environmental Assessment Practitioner in Botswana (BEAPA Certificate 2013/0033).
Environmental Impact Assessment: David has 20 years’ experience in EIA both in providing specialist inputs (ecological, land use, remote sensing and GIS) and as a team leader. The EIAs cover national projects (such as BotAsh, Ngamiland fences EIA and roads EIAs), international EIAs and World Bank framework EIAs.
Team Leader and Project Management: David’s management of large projects and multi sector teams covers a large number of local and international projects. Locally he has been the team leader and on the Zambezi Commercial Agricultural and pipeline ESIA (a three year ESIA involving 18 different specialists), Botswana’s largest power expansion project, together with water supply and mining projects (Debswana expansion, Morupule Colliery expansion and Uranium Mining). Internationally he has been the team leader on a number of large hydropower projects and on the MCA-T funded Malagarasi Hydropower project in Western Tanzania.
Regional environmental studies and cross border resources is of special interest to David and he has participated in the environmental sector of the Zambezi River Basin Plan, Wildlife and land use of the Okavango – Upper Zambezi SDI, OKACOM environmental studies and cross border resources in the area.
David has nearly a decade’s experience in strategic assessment; these include the Okavango Delta Ramsar Site, Chobe Forest Reserves and the Special Economic Zones. He has also participated in international SEA for the power sector (Mozambique) and hydropower (Tanzania).
David also has in-depth knowledge and expertise of policy and planning, was team leader for National Wetlands Policy and Strategy, partner in the integration of environment into national planning through the Environmental Planning Project (EPP) and the project manager on the National Biodiversity Strategy.
