Mike de Wit obtained his BSc (Hons) degree in Geology from Trinity College Dublin Ireland in 1975. He joined the Geological Survey of South Africa in 1976 and obtained an MSc in Geophysics (University of Pretoria) in 1981.

In 1978 he joined the De Beers/Anglo American Group working on projects in Africa. He completed a company sponsored MSc in Sedimentology at the University of Reading in 1983. He then initiated an exploration/evaluation program on secondary diamond deposits in western South Africa which became part of his PhD (University of Cape Town 1993).

Mike was appointed as the Geological Manager of the Anglo-American Research Laboratories in Johannesburg in 1993 before he becoming exploration manager for De Beers for South Africa, Angola, DRC and ultimately for Africa until his retirement from De Beers in 2007.

In 2007 became President/CEO of TSX listed BRC (Pty) Ltd operating out of Kinshasa, DRC until 2010. In 2009 was appointed President/COO for Tsodilo Resources (Pty) Ltd operating in Botswana where he is still exploring for diamonds, iron ore and copper. He was appointed Honorary Professor at the University of Pretoria in 2007.
