Thabo Balopi has been in the mining industry since 1995, having joined Debswana from the Debswana Scholarship programme with a BSc(Hons) Degree in Applied Geology from Imperial College London, UK. Attained post graduate Masters in Engineering MEng (Mining) from the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits), RSA.
Thabo has experience in Mineral Resources Management and Exploration across Diamonds and Base Metals as well as managing at different levels of the business and worked for Debswana Diamond Company, De Beers and Tati Nickel Mining Company.
He has occupied different roles over the years with the last two being Senior Mineral Resources Manager at OLDM (2008-2011) and Senior Mineral Resources Manager at Jwaneng Mine (2012-2015), before being appointed Head of Mineral Resources Management for Debswana at the Beginning of 2016.
Mineral resources management in Debswana comprises of the following disciplines: Geology, Geotechnical Engineering, Hydrogeology, Survey, Mine Planning and Mineral Resource Systems Integration.
Mr Baruti Regoeng holds a Bachelor of Engineering Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Liverpool in the United Kingdom (1998) as well as a Postgraduate Diploma in Petroleum Policy and Management from the International Institute of Petroleum Development and Management (PETRAD), Norway (2000). Mr Regoeng worked with Ministry of Investment Trade and Industry (MITI) between 1991 and 2000.
In 2001, he was transferred with the then Petroleum Management Unit of the Department of Trade and Consumer Affairs (MITI) to the Energy Affairs Division; now Department of Energy under the Ministry of Mineral Resources, Green Technology and Energy Security. He is currently employed as a Principal Energy Engineer responsible for the Programme Development Division in the Department of Energy.
His responsibilities include key amongst others; conception and development of the energy sector projects and programmes as well as overseeing implementation of the major oil and gas infrastructure projects as a Programme Manager for the Botswana Oil Storage Development Programme. He is currently holds membership to the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) and the Institute of Petroleum, UK. He has been very instrumental is establishment of Botswana Oil Limited and development of the Oil and Gas Sector strategy as well as that for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency and Conservation.
Mr Gabaake Gabaake has extensive senior level experience in both the private and public sectors, both at Exco and board levels. As a former Permanent Secretary for the Government of the Republic of Botswana, at Ministry of Minerals, Energy and Water resources, he oversaw the country’s entire diamond and mineral sector, which makes up approximately 40% of national GDP. He also oversaw the energy and water sectors and led the ministry through the challenging chronic power shortages in 2009/10 leading to the decision to build Orapa 90 MW power station in record time.
Also served as Permanent Secretary in Ministry of Local Government during which time the project implementation capacity of the Ministry and focus on quality of service delivery was improved measurably. He has extensive board level experience (including Chairmanship roles with enterprise turnover of USD 3.3 BN) as well as Executive functions. Mr. Gabaake possesses demonstrable leadership skills, deep commercial capabilities and the ability to manage multi-stakeholder relationships at a senior/executive level. He is currently Executive Director at Tlou Energy and leading a team on international and local experts whose dream soon to be realized, is to become the pioneers of the development of a natural gas industry in Botswana, giving the country a cleaner and much more flexible source of energy.
Mr Tsheole is a seasoned Financial Markets expert with a cumulative experience of 15 years having worked for Bank of Botswana and Botswana Stock Exchange.
Mr Tsheole holds a Bachelor of Social Sciences (Single Major Economics) from the University of Botswana and a Master of Commerce (MComm) in Financial Markets from Rhodes University (RSA). Further, he holds a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from the Graduate School of Business, University of Cape Town (RSA). He has also completed several financial markets programmes as well as a Leadership Development Programme at the University of Stellenbosch Business School (RSA).
Mr Tsheole has extensive financial markets experience in Capital Markets, Forex, Structured Products and the Financial Market Regulation. He was appointed CEO of the Botswana Stock Exchange (BSE) in January 2016 following a short stint as Deputy CEO at BSE since February 2014. His career at BSE began in February 2007 when he was appointed Product Development Manager.
Mr Tsheole is a firm believer in the development of the financial market in Botswana and Africa, as well as their importance to economic growth and stability. It is against this backdrop that he has led initiatives to increase activity in the financial market in Botswana.
Mr Tsheole is the Chairman of the Committee of SADC Stock Exchanges (CoSSE). He is also a member of the African Securities Exchanges Association (ASEA) Executive Committee, and sits on the following Boards; Botswana Accountancy Oversight Authority, Medicines Regulatory Authority of Botswana, Special Economic Zones Authority (SEZA), ACHAP Botswana and ACHAP International. As a result of his extensive experience he was invited to serve as a member of Africa Integrated Reporting Committee (AIRC), a joint initiative between Pan African Federation of Accountants (PAFA) and World Bank as of July, 2017.
Mr Boikobo Paya is the Director of International Linkages and Partnerships at the Botswana International University of Science and Technology (BIUST). Prior to joining BIUST, Mr Paya served the Government of Botswana for 26 years in different capacities, and progressed through the corporate ladder to the position of Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources. Mr Paya is a seasoned geologist and researcher, with an extensive experience in managing large organisations with staff compliments of about 2000 employees; managing national multi-billion Pula projects, such as the National Water Master Plan, Mmamabula Coal Project. He was instrumental in the establishment of Government-owned entities, in minerals, energy and water sectors, which are playing a critical role in the economic development of Botswana. He has trained, managed and mentored staff in cross-functional team projects and he has proven leadership acumen. He obtained Bachelor of Science in Geology from the University of Botswana and Masters of Philosophy in Geology from the University of Portsmouth, United Kingdom. Directorship: He has chaired Diamond Trading Company Botswana (DTCB); served as a board member – Debswana Mining Company (Pty) Ltd; De Beers Botswana and currently board member of African Copper.
